As of mid-December 2025, OpenAI launched Apple Music as a dedicated “app extension” within ChatGPT. This follows a similar integration with Spotify and is part of the ongoing partnership between Apple and OpenAI.
What you can do with ChatGPT Apple Music Integration
The integration acts like a “music concierge.” You can use natural language to find music and manage your library:
- Create Playlists: You can ask for highly specific playlists (e.g., “Create a 25-track upbeat Christmas rock playlist without the usual clichés”), and ChatGPT will build it and save it directly to your Apple Music library.
- Discovery & Search: You can search for songs, artists, or albums by describing a “vibe” or a vague memory rather than using exact keywords.
- Song Previews: Unique to the Apple Music integration (and not currently available on the Spotify version), you can listen to 30-second audio previews of recommended songs directly inside the ChatGPT interface.
- No Subscription Needed for Basics: Even if you don’t have a paid Apple Music subscription, you can still use ChatGPT to search the catalog and listen to song previews.
How to set it
- Open ChatGPT (on the web, Mac, or iOS app).
- Go to Settings > Apps (or “Connected Apps”).
- Find Apple Music in the list and select Connect.
- Sign in with your Apple Account to authorize the link.
- Once connected, you can start a prompt with @AppleMusic to use the feature.
Privacy Note
Crucially, ChatGPT cannot read your existing listening history or private library. It only has access to the public Apple Music catalog and can “write” (add) new songs or playlists that you specifically ask it to create.
